Since its publication in 1966, Linear Algebra and Its Applications has established itself as the leading undergraduate linear algebra textbook and reference work in the field. It remains an indispensable resource to those wishing to learn linear algebra.

Overview About “Linear Algebra and Its Applications, 4th Edition”

This text covers traditional topics in linear algebra. Such as determinants, vector spaces, bases, dimension theory, eigenvalues. And eigenvectors of linear operators in Euclidean space, inner product spaces, and quadratic forms. It also discusses generalizations of these concepts. Such as tensor products (which are used extensively in modern differential geometry) including a detailed treatment of finite-dimensional Banach spaces (notably Hilbert and Jordan algebras). The author is a well-known researcher who has taught at Stanford University for many years. His book will be useful to students of mathematics at advanced undergraduate level or above taking courses in linear algebra or analysis at honors or graduate level.

Reviews About “Linear Algebra and Its Applications, 4th Edition”

In Linear Algebra and its Applications, Fourth Edition, Dr. Lay introduces his reader to linear algebra using clear language with an ease rarely found in mathematics texts. His writing style is of particular note: throughout each chapter, he instructs without condescension; words flow from page to mind without interruption or annoyance. This is knowledge gained truly. This book is one of my favorites because it explains everything in easy-to-understand terms. While still being rigorous enough to retain its mathematical value. Brittany Farrell is One of my favorite books!
