The Fiend Folio is a sourcebook of demonology and creatures, part of the Advanced Dungeons & Dragons line of role-playing games materials. And it was updated in 2003 by Wizards of the Coast as the Tome of Horrors with players’ options rules included in some creatures to encourage use as opponents for player characters. It was edited by James M. Ward and published in 1981 by TSR Hobbies, Inc. As a 128-page hardcover book with color illustrations and an outer folder.

Overview About “Fiend Folio: Tome of Creatures Malevolent and Benign: (Advanced Dungeons and Dragons)”

A third of a trilogy, The Fiend Folio describes monsters that players can use to enhance their AD&D adventures. The monsters in The Fiend Folio are collected from many sources, including mythology and folklore, as well as popular fiction. In addition to monster descriptions, each monster entry features adventure hooks that present story ideas related to each creature. Advice is given on how to portray monsters and where they might fit into an AD&D game. Some creatures require special consideration when using them in a game; these sections offer advice on these subjects. Why Buy This Book? One thing that makes AD&D stand out against other roleplaying games is its emphasis on providing characters with the opportunity to battle all sorts of fantastical foes.

Reviews About “Fiend Folio: Tome of Creatures Malevolent and Benign: (Advanced Dungeons and Dragons)”

Fiend Folio, from The Role-Playing Game Resource Site, reviews: One of my favorites on my shelf is Fiend Folio. It’s got demons for all levels. Not just fodder for high-level adventurers, but mid-level ones too. Of course, there are also some low-level and special monster ones for those lower or higher-level creatures you need to throw at players to keep them on their toes. I really like how it has a wide variety of monsters as well as giving you enough information about them. That you can easily use in your own campaign setting with a little tweaking. There’s no fluff, just facts which makes it great! So if you’re looking for a simple to use but the fun book, get yourself a copy of Fiend Folio today!

About the Publisher

Advanced Dungeons & Dragons, often abbreviated to AD&D or D&D, is a fantasy tabletop role-playing game first published in 1974. The game has been revised and re-released many times; there are five distinct editions, as well as numerous expansion packs. It was derived from miniature wargames with a variation of the rules known as Chainmail that also served as the basis for RPGs like Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay. Advanced Dungeons & Dragons became most famous for its third edition, published in 2000 by Wizards of The Coast; it became widely popular around 2002 when it was released under version 3.5 and subsequent classic modules that recalled its most famous earlier adventures. This edition is commonly known as just Dungeons & Dragons because it is no longer produced.
