James West Davidson is Professor Emeritus of History at Duke University. He is a Fellow in American History at Dumbarton Oaks and has written widely on both medieval and American history. His book, After the Fact: The Art of Historical Detection, won a Spur Award from Western Writers of America. He lives in Durham, North Carolina. Mark Lytle is a writer-in-residence at Pacific Lutheran University and author or editor of numerous books about colonial and western history. This year marks his 40th anniversary as a published historian.
