Reviews About “The Women of the Copper Country” by “Mary Doria Russell”
The Women of The Copper Country is a very good novel and I highly recommend it. Although a work of fiction, it does do justice to how life was for women who lived in that era. Not every woman was independently wealthy, nor did they have a family to rely on for support. Many were left as widows with small children, no resources to speak of and in many cases, forced to live in poverty or near poverty conditions. The great miner strikes affected everyone – including these women who had little rights then or even now (considering women’s rights didn’t begin happening until almost 100 years later). Life wasn’t easy then and as I said earlier, author Mary Doria Russell portrayed that beautifully here.
