Overview About “No Big Deal” by “Bethany Rutter”

No Big Deal is a poignant story about loss, grief, and healing. No Big Deal deals with suicide and mental illness in a manner I’ve not seen in any other teen novel – Bethany hits it right on target. This book should be required reading for all teens; it would have helped me a lot when I was going through some rough times. There are no pat answers or unrealistic solutions presented, just straightforward honest writing that will have you laughing one moment and crying the next as we follow along with Sarah’s journey to healing.

About No “Big Deal” the author of “No Big Deal”

In 2005, Bethany Rutter was a 21-year-old college student. She’d just won her first poetry award and had published several poems in journals and on websites. But at 6 a.m. one Saturday morning, she was surprised to find herself face down on her bathroom floor, unable to stand up or say more than one word at a time (she couldn’t even call 911). Her symptoms worsened rapidly over 24 hours until she couldn’t read, write or speak legibly enough to put together a sentence; eat normally; dress; walk more than a few steps unassisted; hold objects in her hands for more than 30 seconds; bathe herself or tell time from an analog clock face.
